Sea Girls started from nothing, yet here they are headlining the O2 Academy Brixton in London
Rating: 5/5
When you have followed a band since the beginning, it is always a great emotion to see them blossom and succeed in such a grand way. Sea Girls headlined their biggest show to date at O2 Academy Brixton on 15 October.
The venue:
When I got in, I did not realise the full extent of this venue’s capacity. Almost 5,000 people filled every corner of the room, including the vast balcony area. It was so surreal to see such a sea of people dancing and, most importantly, singing in unison.
The support:
The band Coach Party was the designated support for the night, and they did not disappoint. With an almost punk-rock vibe, the girl-lead band captured the audience with their impressive vocals and energy.
Were Sea Girls up to the challenge?

Absolutely yes. A thousand times yes. Sea Girls are a very dynamic and energetic band, and they did not disappoint. Since they started with the upbeat ‘Call Me Out’, the crowd was already warmed up and ready to dance their worries away. Between a mosh-pit and another, Henry Camamile – Sea Girls’ frontman – expressed how crazy it was to play in front of so many people, making their gratitude known.
The theatrical ‘Transplant’ began playing and, I must be honest, I shed a tear or two. While the audience was taking it all in, Camamile encouraged everyone to sing the emblematic line “whatever happened to your heart didn’t happen to mine,” and a beautiful atmosphere crept up upon us.
Continuing with songs like ‘Lie To Me’ and ‘Open Up Your Head’, Sea Girls were able to fit in the setlist not only a shortened cover of Adele’s famous ‘Someone Like You’, but also three brand new singles from their upcoming album Homesick, due to come out in January 2022: ‘Hometown’, ‘Moving On’ and ‘Lonely’, which is a beautiful ballad. From what I have heard, the new album might be even better than their iconic debut – Open Up Your Head.
The highlight of the night:

For once, I cannot choose only one favourite moment. Not only the band showed incredible stage presence, vocal abilities, and charisma, but they were also able to involve the crowd in such a way that is so rare to see. People on shoulders during intimate songs like ‘You Over Anyone’ and light games during the closing track ‘Sick’ are what made the difference. The crowd was singing as one and Sea Girls should only be proud of all they achieved. I cannot wait to hear what they have planned.
