Easy on Me: It’s about “divorce babe, divorce”

After five years, Adele is making her comeback with her fourth album ’30’ which is being released on November 19th, 2021.

With her new single ‘Easy on Me’, Adele has once more returned to the top spot on the UK charts, breaking the national record for the most streams in a week. After just 20 hours of the song being released, it racked up 34 million views on Youtube.

This is her third single that is topping charts – after ‘Someone like You’ and ‘Hello’. The release of her album ‘21’, was an immediate success that dominated the charts for years. She returned 5 years later with her fastest-selling album ‘25’, highlighting how her dominance over the music industry was far from over. This time around, with the album ‘30’, an expectation to break records is inevitable.

Divorce:

The heart-breaking ballad explores her divorce from Simon Konecki and is as transparently honest as the fans expect from her. She sings about hope, which could encapsulate the optimism she has that she’ll find future happiness that her son will get to witness.

Adele and Konecki made their relationship official in 2011 and they welcomed their son, Angelo, in 2012. It was previously thought that the couple got married in 2017, however, Adele confirmed to Vogue that they actually got married in 2018.

She told Vogue that “It just wasn’t right for me anymore. I didn’t want to end up like a lot of other people I knew. I wasn’t miserable miserable, but I would have been miserable had I not put myself first”

During an Instagram Live session with her fans, Adele was asked about the subject matter of her upcoming project. She promptly replied, “Divorce babe, divorce.”

The House:

Adele’s fans have noticed how in the ‘Rolling in the Deep’ music video that Adele is building a house, which she is moving into in the ‘Hello’ music video, and finally in the ‘Easy on Me’ music video we see her packing up and leaving the house.

Analytically, the house represents the marriage and the effort that was put into building it together and making it feel like home.

Featuring black and white cinematography, the video features Adele looking around the empty house before picking up her suitcase and leaving; a cathartic release for the hurt singer.

The Response:

From high-profile celebrities to clothing brands, everyone was delighted and showed support online.

Actress Alicia Silverstone, who is most well known for her role in ‘Clueless’:

Singer Normani, who is most well known for her time in girl group ‘Fifth Harmony’:

However, others were not as taken aback by this single:

I love Adele. She has a great voice. Let’s be honest tho. This is just more of the same. It sounds just like most of her other songs. It’s boring. It’s ok to criticize and not just say it’s great because its Adele.

The best response that has been circulating on social media: “I’m not even married, but if I was, I’d file for divorce”. The euphoric nature of Adele’s single is bringing millions together worldwide. Adele’s social media have recently been updated with a new layout, a new era is fast approaching; Anticipation is high for the release of the full album.
