Living in student accommodation can be very difficult at times especially if it is your first time living away from your family and friends.

So, why not take some time out your week to have a catch up with your family or friends from back home?

Discuss with them anything you may be struggling with as they can be the biggest source of comfort to you when you need it the most. However, if you are living at home whilst studying at university, it can be really refreshing to make new friends and socialise outside of your course by attending various society events or even having a chat with your fellow students between lectures.

Interfaith Room

We all have those times where we need some space to think about things and a great way to do this is using City’s facilities such as the interfaith room. The interfaith room is a great place to think things out because it is inclusive to everyone, regardless if you belong to a faith or not. You can use this space to take some time out and refresh your mindset after a long hard day of work. Meditating is also a great way to relieve tension and relax the mind – apps such as Headspace can be an excellent tool to use in conjunction.

So, the next time you feel overwhelmed at uni, you know that the interfaith room is there for you.

Mental Health Services

If you are finding yourself struggling with things – whether it be work-load or anything else, the best place to reach out to is City’s mental health services located in Drysdale building.

Here you can access a variety of services like counselling and advice on many different things from dietary issues to anxiety and stress. This is a great way to talk to people about how you are feeling instead of bottling it up which does more harm than good.

Equally so, if you have any health conditions that is affecting your studies it is important that you disclose this information as soon as possible so you get the right help that is needed for you.

Activities

It’s absolutely vital that you surround yourself with positive energy and take part in activities that you enjoy. Whether it be sports, art or something as simple as watching your favourite show at the end of the day.

You can even try out something new! Picking up something new can break up the monotony of our daily routine and can stop us from getting bored.

Although it is very important for us to work towards our goals, we need to ensure we are happy and motivated to enable us to flourish.

Healthy Eating

A healthy balanced diet is key to success as our bodies rely on the nutrition we give it to carry out our important daily activities. Now more than ever, healthy food is readily available and doesn’t cost a large amount which is a huge plus for us students when it comes to money saving meals.

What I find easiest is to meal prep for the week. Try prepping your meals ahead of time so that when you come back from uni, you know you have a healthy meal waiting for you instead of picking out the first thing you see in the fridge which I know we’re all guilty of!
